Mission Statement

Department of Michigan Public Relations Web Page (DMPRWP) a tool for our members to promote The American Legion, and what we do in supporting our Vision of a strong America through our advocacy of the 4 Pillars.

Goals

• To give our Department of Michigan Members a Single Point of Contact to post information readily available to our Michigan Legion Family via the web.
• Increase public awareness and understanding of the missions, policies and programs of the Legion and the great things we do.
• Inspire patriotism and promote the memories of Veterans.
• Foster good relations on mutually acceptable terms with the public that The Legion comes into contact with.
• Attract eligible veterans to join The American Legion as we continue to serve America and our fellow Veterans.

Through Good Public Relations, The American Legion can breathe life into our image as Legionnaires and our commitment to veterans, their families and their communities.  Let’s be seen in our communities, be known in our communities and reap the dividends of public relations as our post’s force multiplier.

Your State Public Relations Committee now has the ability to provide you with local media contacts for news coverage.

To request media contact for your news releases which will result in good American Legion publicity and let your community know the good things your post, district, or county are doing, contact either State Communications Director Warren Stensrud by email at info@michiganlegion.org or phone: 517-371-4720, ext. 0 for page, or State Public Relations Committee Chairman Dick Chatman at dickc1948@ameritech.net or phone: 313-861-6852.

Please note the event criteria you are releasing must meet one of the following criteria: Service to our veterans/armed forces personnel, Support /Mentor our children & youth, Promote Americanism/patriotism, National security concerns.

Your State Public Relations Committee wants to hear about the good work your Legion does in your communities and make these stories available to our Legion Family.  These stories, however, are separate from photos and material you submit to the Michigan Legionnaire for publication.
