Heroes to Hometowns

The "Heroes Home", (Guest House), is now handicapped accessible, thanks to a donation from the SAL Detachment. An active duty soldier has visited in September 2010 and offered both praise and suggestions for the facility for 2011. We will be scheduling vacations at the Heroes Home and Lodge for visits beginning in May 2011. We are hoping for worker bees to help on projects like clearing and smoothing out camp grounds. Various uses will be added as each cost and feasibility is determined. A list is now posted of proposed projects for a 5 year plan. Click here for the link to the list.

 Need for funds to operate

Since many uses will be by Legion Family members, we hope to keep their costs down for visits. Success of this effort will depend on our fund raising efforts and how many of our members will donate time and material for maintenance and improvements. Same holds true for organizations like the Boy Scouts.

Ferndale Post 330 member Frank Flores presents a $5,000 Wilwin Lodge donation to department officials during the 2010 Fall Conference in Troy.  Shown (l-r) Wilwin Lodge Special Committee member PDC William F. Miller, State Commander William Hafeman, Frank Flores Post 330 representative, and Wilwin Lodge Special Committee Chairman PDC Carnie Jackson.  The donated Wilwin Lodge property located in Trout Lake is being developed by the American Legion in support of troops, veterans and children and youth retreat programs.
